We leave Flensburg going north to the border in the direction of Graasten with its uniquely sited castle Augustenborg the summer residence of the Queen of Denmark. The palace gardens are open for the public provided the Royal Family is
NOT in residence.
The tour goes further north to Dyböl, from faraway a majestic old windmill is visible in the direction of Sonderborg. A stop is made at the historical site (battlefield 1864 Prussia/Austria v. Denmark) Dyböl. In Sonderburg the castle at the harbour invites to stroll around and the old town is always worth looking into. The way back south goes along the shore road, with fabulous views across the water to Glücksburg and Flensburg.
